Humanitarian engineering
This discipline of engineering starts from the first years of university, not knowing the term that composes it “humanitarian”, according to the meaning of the British encyclopedia is “the application of engineering to improving the well-being of marginalized people and disadvantaged communities, usually in the developing world”.
My first approach to apply this discipline was a couple of years ago with a small SME, which consists of producing events to expose the products of entrepreneurs, the CEO was so excited to participate in the program that was delivering my college career, along with a colleague we had to make a diagnosis based on the interview we had with her, from that information we could put together a plan that would improve their weaknesses and enhance their strengths. My work had a positive impact thanks to her, since she expressed a lot of happiness in following the plan we had prepared for her.
Another occasion where I was able to put part of my work as an engineer was when we helped a family with a multidisciplinary team of the university, for this work we had to cover a home giving them better housing conditions in the difficult climates they live in their village, that work has been one of the most important for me and gave me to understand the role we have in society, regardless of our disciplines and knowledge, it will always be positive to provide help to those in need, we can all contribute in one way or another. The daughter of the family nicknamed me “uncle tails” during the time we were there was my little sister, she was very happy with all the people on the team, we all took care of her and gave all our energy so that she and family had a decent place to live.

My last “humanitarian” participation has been in an engineering organization, again in a multidisciplinary team and outstanding for this type of aid, I met very talented and passionate about this discipline, I was with them for a couple of months helping with activities and formulating a project that would help many families, thanks to the team we were able to get this project forward, despite the problems we had along the way, then at the time of execution I could participate in several days that I would have liked more, however, the days I was helping with volunteers were very profitable. I remember at the beginning when we arrived to introduce ourselves to the community, they were anxious about the work, the families of the community were happy, they shared with the team, they collaborated in whatever was asked of them and there I could see the effort of families, friends, neighbors, colleagues, all of them to make this project a success, it can be said that…
“we have left our mark”.
